Mix & Match: Traditional with Contemporary

When it comes to interior design, mixing and matching elements is all part of the fun. At My Favorite Design, we're no stranger to incorporating colorful pieces with neutral accessories, bold artwork with subtle tones, and last but not least...traditional elements with contemporary pieces. Read more below for our tips & tricks for mixing and matching with ease.
Have a Baseline

Contemporary & Traditional styles don't always have to be oppoitional. Instead, you can bring them together to be quite complimentary. Take this home remodel in Summerlin, Las Vegas for example. We kept our baseline contemporary with the basic elements: the fireplace, flooring, and vaulted ceilings. To bring in a softer, more plush comfort of the traditional style, we opted for neutral sofas, bronzed accessories, and custom upholstered chairs that can be utilized all year long. The baseline for this space might have been contemporary and sleek, but our clients wanted to feel more at home, which steered our direction towards less modern-looking furniture pieces to bring in that balance.
Let The Wallpaper Do Its Thing

Contemporary doesn't always have to look futuristic & traditional doesn't always have to be defined in neutral tones. Sometimes, wallpaper can shake things up in the best way. This bathroom remodel in Las Vegas, NV does just that. Our couple wanted a fun, spacious primary bathroom, while keeping up with the times. This wallpaper brings in a unique, textured element & since we paired it with these golden fixtures, the more traditional elements came through. The non-circular mirrors are quite contemporary, but they're toned down with the light-painted cabinetry and custom window drapes.
Lights Will Guide You

Light fixtures can be the easiest trick in the book when it comes to mixing and matching elements. This home remodel in Nevada does just that. The subtle touch of a contemporary light fixture in this dining room allows for the more traditional, and in this case, bolder elements, to shine! We had the dining room chairs upholstered in this red velvet for a romantic look and feel, while keeping the floors and table in wooden elements. By having sleek drapery in the background, this also brought in a touch of glam and Las Vegas-style living.
Don't be afraid to mix and match elements when designing your home! This is all part of the fun and we can't wait to see all of your home project photos soon.
